Nick the Nightfly is a famous singer, musician and radio personality in Italy on Radio Monte Carlo.

He is the voice behind the mike on  “Monte Carlo Nights” Italy’s leading late-night radio show. In 2019 the show celebrated its 30th  anniversary with four sold out shows at the Blue Note Milan, live on stage with his Jazz 5tet and special guests. His musical interests include Jazz, Soul, quality Pop, New Jazz, World and Brazilian music.

Nick was born in Glasgow, Scotland, but he has called Italy home since 1982. His radio programme has featured guest appearances by Quincy Jones, Sting, Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Pat Metheny, Peter Gabriel, Emili Sandè, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Brian Eno, Gino Vanelli, David Sylvain, Miriam Makeba, Caetano Veloso, Enya, Donald Fagen, Wayne Shorter, Pino Daniele, Phil Collins,Annie Lennox and many more .

On radio, awards :

In 1995 Nick received the  prestigious “Telegatto” (the Italian equivalent of a Grammy award for radio) which he subsequently dedicated to his listeners. In 1996 he received the “Bybloscar” award as Best Radio DJ, while he won it again in 1998 for the Best Radio TV program. In 2008 Nick received the Saint Vincent award for best radio program and in 2017 Nick won “The Golden Headphones” award which was presented by the City of Trento and colleagues from the radio industry.

He has  recorded 6 albums of original music and standards with his Nick The Nightfly Orchestra and with his Jazz 5tet. Don’t Forget which was released in Italy by RTI Music “Nice One” Edel music and his last album “Be Yourself” in 2018 Egea music with his Jazz 5tet .With his big band “Nick The Nightfly Orchestra” he has recorded three albums, the first of which was recorded live at Milan’s prestigious Blue Note jazz club and featured a duet with the famous English vocalist Sarah Jane Morris. The album “The Devil”  featuring world renowned trumpet player Paolo Fresu and Sarah Jane Morris. The album “Swing and Sing” a triple CD of standards and originals. Nick and his orchestra have also performed with international stars such as Dee Dee Bridgewater, Patti Austin, The Yellow Jackets, Donald Harrison and many leading Italian musicians.

A highlight for Nick and  the Orchestra in 2014 they performed for the legendary “Quincy Jones”


Nick has released more than 20  compilations with Sony music and BMG, in addition to a 6 CD edition “The Nightfly Box”. He  released a double CD of swing music for EMI “Aperitivo con Swing,” while for Blue Note Records he has produced compilations and of recordings at Milan’s famous Blue Note Jazz  Club, where has been artist director since its opening in 2003. Nick goes live on the radio with his show Monte Carlo Nights once a week from the club.
